The furniture style most preferred by professionals just starting out could be classified as modern. There just isn't enough time in the day for these professionals to have to worry about dusting every nook and cranny found in elaborately designed furniture and having to deal with knick knacks scattered about just isn't practical. Neatness and clean lines are what's in, disorganization and disorder is not.
Rooms that are designed in a modern style consist of dark wood or black furniture. By using these darker shades, the room is made to feel more elegant and refined. Knick knacks are kept to a minimum as the primary focus is placed on having only a small group of items that are the center of attraction. Individuals who decorate using a modern style will invest their money in a small amount of interesting and distinctive items rather than purchasing large amounts of less unique items. One example of this is when I vacationed in Venice during the summer months. I paid a lot of money for a single Venetian glass vase. I don't regret buying this item because it is the result of many months of searching for that one ideal red vase that I now have prominently displayed in the middle of my dining room table.
Muted colors are the chosen palette for rooms designed with a modern flair. You'll find green, red, white, and black to be the colors of choice for a modern room. With these colors as a background, the accessory items placed in the room will stand out more vividly. The furniture's smooth design style will be highlighted as well. Another commonly used approach is to paint blocks in alternating colors such as black and white that follow a diagonal pattern that extends from each corner in the room. By installing shelves in various places along the blocks, certain pieces can be placed according to what matches best, black or white.
The saying less is best applies to designing in a modern style. A room designed in modern style will not have numerous throws, decorative baskets, stools, or chairs scattered throughout the room but will rather have a few prominent pieces in the room such as end tables or perhaps some coordinating floor pillows.
When using a modern design, the room will look elegant, polished, and sheik. This style is a bit hit with young professionals because it's easy to maintain but also works well for entertaining. Once you start a family, however, it would be difficult to maintain a modern style in the midst of toys and other baby items strewn about. Additionally, modern design styles are less warm than other designs which wouldn't be as pleasant of an environment for children. When children are in the home, it is difficult to protect your decorative items and furniture from damage. If your goal is to have a strict modern design in your home, you need to do this before you start a family or once you have an empty nest again. Another option is to designate one special room and have it designed in a modern style where you can keep your more delicate and costly items and have it non accessible to children.
